Birth Actually was established during the COVID pandemic in 2020 – because who doesn’t love a challenge?! The idea for Birth Actually was born over 10 years ago, when Hayley and Laura were training as midwives together and shared many car journeys to and from placements!
Birth Actually aims to help empower families by delivering current evidence-based information; informing families of birth options and choices; encouraging you to create a positive birth experience; and ensuring you feel confident and ready for the start of your parenthood journey.
We are registered with FEDANT - Federation of Antenatal Educators:

I'm originally from 'up north' and came to Kent over 10 years ago to start my midwifery training. I have two small children who keep me busy, but if I had any spare time, I love reading and sleeping!!!
I am currently a senior midwife in a low-risk midwifery unit and also a tongue-tie practitioner. I am trained in performing Newborn and Infant Physical Examinations (NIPEs); hypnobirthing; aromatherapy; and am currently training to become a Lactation Consultant.
Having trained as a midwife before I had my children (both of whom were delivered by Hayley!) I have experienced first-hand how having an understanding of the physiology of birth can help lead to a positive birth experience. I am excited to work with families to help them prepare for their new arrivals!!!

Founder
I qualified as a midwife in 2013 and I have more recently worked as a senior midwife at a stand-alone birth centre. Before that, I was a community midwife and I have also worked in a delivery suite in a large obstetric unit. I am a qualified Newborn and Infant Physical Examinations (NIPE) practitioner and I have a special interest in women's health.
I am currently working as a manager within the public health directorate for the NHS
I have two adult sons and two dogs that keep me busy when I’m not working!
I am really passionate about supporting people to be fully informed, have choices, and feel empowered to have a positive birth experience. I am proud of the services that Birth Actually provide to pregnant people and their families and I cannot wait to meet you.
We are so proud and honoured to have even been nominated for a Kent Women in Business Award 2022 - let alone 3!!!!
Thank you to everyone from our classes who nominated us!!!
We were the finalists in the following categories:
- New Business of the Year
- Women's Champion
- Community Champion
The fact that we are midwives rather than businesswomen makes our 'Runner-Up' in the 'New Business of the Year Award' even more special!!!
We had a fantastic night and met some amazing and inspiring people!!!
